New National Standard GB/T 3098.2-2025 “Mechanical Properties of Fasteners – Part 2: Nuts” Released

The State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration of China) has recently approved and released the new national standard GB/T 3098.2-2025, Mechanical Properties of Fasteners – Part 2: Nuts. The standard is scheduled to take effect on February 1, 2026, replacing the current GB/T 3098.2-2015.

GB/T 3098.2 is one of the core fundamental standards of the fastener industry, specifying the mechanical and physical properties of nuts made of carbon steel or alloy steel. The new edition adopts the international standard ISO 898-2:2022 (MOD), bringing it into line with advanced international technical requirements.

The standard mainly covers the following:

Thread sizes: ISO metric threads, coarse pitch M5 to M39, fine pitch M8×1 to M39×3

Property classes: 04, 05, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12, including proof load requirements

Nut styles: regular nuts (style 1), high nuts (style 2) and thin nuts (style 0)

Service temperature: -50 °C to +150 °C, and up to +300 °C under special conditions

Notably, the new edition also specifies that nuts shall be used with bolts, screws and studs of property classes conforming to GB/T 3098.1, providing a complete technical basis for the design and selection of fastener assemblies.

The standard was proposed by and is under the jurisdiction of the China Machinery Industry Federation, with technical review by the National Technical Committee for Fastener Standardization; China Productivity Center for Machinery Co., Ltd. and other organizations took part in drafting it.
